HEALTH - Good and bad carbohydrates

There are 3 main forms of carbohydrate: sugars, starch and fibre. Both starch and fibre are complex carbohydrates (good carbs). Good carbs have a minimal impact on your blood sugar levels without causing them to spike or drop too drastically. Good carbs are also full of vitamins, minerals and fiber, which are all necessary for a balanced, healthy diet.

Good Carbohydrates are: Fruits, Vegetables, Beans, Legumes, Nuts, Seeds and Whole grain breads, Whole grain cereals, Whole grain pastas, dairy products.

Table sugars that are added to food and drinks are simple carbohydrates (bad crabs). Bad carbs, on the other hand, are full of sugar and white flour, which send blood sugar levels skyrocketing upwards. Some of the common sugars (simple carbs) are: Glucose, Fructose, Lactose, Maltose, and Sucrose.

Bad Carbohydrates are: Refined grains like white bread and white rice, processed foods such as cake, cookies, chips, certain lunch meats, hotdog's, Soft drinks, Alcohol.
